The technological export sanctions imposed by the US on China have deeply affected the graphics card industry. According to the latest claims, some of Nvidia’s models have fallen on the black market. It is also stated that graphics card prices in China have doubled.
GeForce RTX 4090 price doubled in China
Nvidia’s most powerful model, the GeForce RTX 4090, has become unavailable in China. Chip restrictions imposed by the US government have led to skyrocketing graphics card prices in the country.
The RTX 4090, which was priced at $1599 when it launched last year, is currently listed in China at 29,000 yuan ($3,970). That’s more than double the price tag it should be selling for.
This price hike comes on the heels of the US ban. Under the new government restriction, some powerful models like the Nvidia RTX 4090 can only be exported to China with a license from the Department of Commerce.
The US government aims to limit access to advanced artificial intelligence chips that will help China boost its military capabilities. Nvidia’s RTX cards are also pioneering the use of neural networks and artificial intelligence for graphics processing.
Chinese retailers are trying to pull the RTX 4090 off shelves in line with the new rules. This has led to an increase in the price of the graphics card. Some computer manufacturers have also been restricted from shipping RTX 4090 systems to China.
